Medical expert gives tennis elbow tips - Ultralieve ProHealth columnist Dr Elena Douse has explained how tennis elbow can affect anyone who overexerts the muscles and tendons in their arm during strenuous or repetitive physical activity.

Despite its name, the condition can stem from gardening, weightlifting and typing as well as racquet sports, she writes in the South Wales Echo this week.

For people suffering with tennis elbow, Dr Douse recommends plenty of rest and anti-inflammatory treatments, while physiotherapy can also help to alleviate the condition.

"This pain is typically worse on lifting the arm and on twisting actions of the wrist and arm, such as when opening door handles and bottles," she comments.

"Your doctor will advise you to rest the arm and avoid actions which could cause further inflammation and pain."

Clinical studies have also shown that ultrasound devices, such as the Ultralieve Pro, can accelerate healing for people with tennis elbow.

The condition has also been known to affect the professionals, with Sweden's world number ten Robin Soderling citing a case of tennis elbow when he pulled out of the Valencia Open last month.
