Shaun Maloney could be out of action for another two months after being told he needs rest to cure a tendonitis problem in his heel.

The Celtic player has not appeared for his club since late October, when he was substituted at half-time in the Glasgow side's 1-0 Co-operative Insurance Cup defeat to Hearts.

On Friday (November 27th), Celtic boss Tony Mowbray confirmed that Maloney will not feature again this year due to his Achilles injury.

"There will be no surgery, just a course of injections. He has played with discomfort and he needs to sort it out now," the manager said.

Mowbray also revealed that Maloney's team-mate Scott Brown will be sidelined for a similar length of time with a sports injury, as the midfielder is due to have a second operation on his ankle next week.

Maloney started his career at Celtic before moving to Aston Villa in January 2007. He returned to Celtic Park in August last year after failing to settle at the West Midlands club.
